Job Description

Hourly rate of pay: $13.00

 

North Georgia Technical College is seeking part-time Security Officers. The position is responsible for ensuring the safety of campus buildings, facilities, equipment, and property; as well as helping to ensure the safety of campus personnel, students, and visitors. Patrols assigned areas on campus either on foot or in a vehicle or golf cart and monitors campus buildings for unauthorized personnel. Completes activity reports and maintains files and reports. Monitors surveillance cameras. Maintains parking permit and student, faculty and staff database. Responds to emergency medical situations and administers first aid within the scope of his/her training. Respond to intrusion and fire alarms. Assists campus police, emergency personnel, and/or college personnel in responding to emergencies and disruptive situations. This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Primary location is Clarkesville and may require travel to Toccoa and Blairsville campuses.

• Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and regulations relating to campus safety and security, including emergency response plans;
• Knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of security systems, fire alarm panels, and panic alarm systems;
• Effective written and oral communication skills;
• Effective decision making and problem solving skills;
• Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs;
• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
• Ability to work at any NGTC campus;
• Ability to work weekends, evening shift;
• Ability to differentiate between colors;
• Ability to learn methods to de-escalate and respond to situations involving staff, students, and visitors;
• Ability to quickly observe situations and make an appropriate response;
• Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time;
• Ability to successfully obtain Security Officer Certificate, if required;
• Ability to successfully train in First Aid and AED use.

 

Physical Demands:

  • The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight.
  • Ability to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 25 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing and walking
  • Ability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Full range of hand and finger motion is utilized for data entry purposes.


 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and valid Georgia driver’s license are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications)
• Prior work experience as a Security Officer, especially at night;
• Prior work experience in a post-secondary environment.
