The streets in Downtown Toccoa are turned into a magical Christmas Wonderland each year on the first Friday night in December. The Christmas season officially starts at 6:00 pm as the switch is turned on and all of the downtown is transformed into a sparkling world of lights and beauty. Old fashioned carriages take their riders down the streets to see Santa as he greets the young and old alike. Nostalgic music fills the air as the Victorian Carolers stroll around the downtown. The first Christmas is somberly remembered as visitors witness a live nativity.
Beautifully decorated trees are on display at the Festival of Trees located in the Stephens County Historic Courthouse. Visitors may vote on their favorite tree Friday evening and Saturday afternoon with all the proceeds supporting a local charity.
Outside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, a magical viewscape transforms the courthouse lawn into the North Pole itself. Children will be delighted by the colored lights and special exhibits. Santa’s workshop is on display, and nearby you’ll find his sleigh and reindeer. The magic of Christmas is brought to life as you walk underneath awnings covered with twinkling star lights.
Downtown businesses and restaurants will be open and will welcome their guests with special sales and refreshments during the evening. Local artisans and crafters will also have beautiful “one of a kind” gifts on sale at the Christmas Sage Market.
For the thrill-seekers, Toccoa on Ice opens during ChristmasFest and runs every weekend in December. The ice skating rink will be filled with first time skaters as well as the more seasoned skaters, and there is more than enough room for both.
There’s nothing quite like Christmas, and there’s nothing quite like Downtown Toccoa’s ChristmasFest. Experience the magic on December 6th.
