Main Street Toccoa, in cooperation with the Currahee Art Council, will sponsor a children’s Drama Camp at the historic Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa again this year. The camp will run from June 16 – June 20. The final performance will be June 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
Two classes will be offered; one at 9:00 am – 12:00 noon for children going into first grade (and can read) through 3rd grade and the second will be at 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm for children in 4th grade – 9th grade. Each class will be limited to 30 students.
The registration fee is $65 per child with a $10 discount per additional sibling.
Throughout the week, the children will learn a variety of skills such as breathing exercises, blocking, and memorization. They will be working on a production which they will perform on stage the evening of June 20. Everyone is invited to attend.
Drew Townsend from Clayton, GA will be the director. Drew not only has a Radio & Television Broadcasting Degree and a Theatre minor, but has much experience in acting, directing, producing and teaching drama in a number of different places. Most recently he directed the North Georgia Community Players children’s winter production of Sleeping Beauty, and performed in Franklin’s Smoky Mountain Center of the Performing Arts’ musicals Alice in Wonderland and Annie Get Your Gun
